Four local men were arrested Thursday morning in connection with two bombs left at local churches in DeRidder–one detonated, one did not–as well as several burglary and vandalism charges in Beauregard and Vernon Parishes.

Dennis Swanberg, known as “America’s Minister of Encouragement” will be returning to DeRidder on July 26. First Baptist Church will host the free event at 6:30 p.m.

The Beauregard Parish School Board held a special meeting Thursday night to interview Tim Cooley for the Acting Assistant Superintendent position.

Local authorities are advising local churches to check for any suspicious devices after a two DeRidder churches were burglarized and found to have pipe bombs inside.

One bomb was found before it could explode and cause damage; the other bomb detonated before authorities could stop it.

The Town of Merryville has beennamed the recipient of a $1 million grant- now local proof that even the small towns of America are being helped out by the National Stimulus Package.
