Gustav is expected to hit DeRidder sometime late Monday with Tropical Storm-strength winds and perhaps as much as 20 inches of rain.

Around the city, people were still making preparations on Monday morning, including employing such methods as boarding and taping windows and filling sandbags.

The storm was expected to linger in the area until mid-afternoon on Tuesday as it moved to the west.

A recommended voluntary evacuation is in effect for Beauregard Parish.
