DeRidder, La. -

Beauregard Parish is not getting adequate supplies from the state, or any supplies for that matter.  That was the latest information from the Beauregard Parish Unified Command Group (BPUCG) informational meeting Sunday. Beauregard Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Ken Harlow said he has been sending in repetitive requests for fuel, water, and food to be delivered to designated distribution points, but so far the state has not delivered.

Parish President Mike McLeod said, “We are doing everything we can to get supplies in and make this as easy as possible.  I am upset, the state has dropped the ball on us.”  McLeod said state officials asked the parish to turn in a list of supplies by 3 p.m. Saturday, which they did.  Then, the supplies were to be delivered Sunday.  As of Sunday afternoon, there were no supplies and no word of them being en route, either.

“We sent a parish truck to Camp Beauregard.  A very limited amount was sent to us,” said McLeod.  The truck was on the way to Beauregard Parish during the afternoon meeting.  McLeod said, “On a local level, we are working together to get supplies.  We’re not going to abandon anyone.  We are going to continue to battle to get the supplies.”

Harlow said that Beauregard Parish is not the only parish having problems receiving items.  “There’s no bottled water in Calcasieu parish.  We’re not alone. We are back on our own here, for now,” said Harlow.

Other information from the meeting:

  • DeRidder Mayor Ron Roberts said that City hall will be open Monday at 7 a.m. through     Monday night and on through Tuesday.
  • More sandbags will be prepared by Monday for distribution at the DeRidder work yard.
  • The area is projected to receive heavy rainfall, some estimates around four feet of rain.
  • The Tuesday night Police Jury meeting has been cancelled.
  • Beauregard Memorial Hospital will shelter-in-place

Approximately 40 residents used the bus transportation provided by the parish Sunday for evacuation. The buses were located at each high school in the parish and departed at 10 a.m. Sunday.  They were initially going to travel to Shreveport, but parish officials received word that 6,000 buses were expected in Shreveport on Sunday; so, they decided to evacuate those people to special shelters locally.
