DERIDDER—The qualifying for municipal elections ended 5 p.m. Friday leaving a few candidates running uncontested.
Uncontested candidates include mayoral incumbents Ron Roberts of DeRidder and Charles Hudson of Merryville, Merryville Chief of Police James Longoria, DeRidder City Councilmen Robert “Bo” Rice (Dist. 1), Gordon Jenkins (Dist. 3), Elizabeth Granger (Dist. 4) and Joseph “Joe” Siciliano (Dist 5).
There are three City of DeRidder council seats that are up for grabs.
The two “at large” council seats have three qualifiers: Hayward Steele, Vincent Labue and Todd Suire. The two seats are voted on by the entire city and do not have a specific district.
The DeRidder District 2 seat will be a race between Danny Washington and Faith Buckley Thomas.
In the Town of Merryville all candidates for alderman run against each other with the five receiving the most votes seated.
The eight candidates vying for the seats are: Jay Williamson, Elton R. Havens, Teresa Havens, Sarah C. Whitehead, “Tami” Longoria, Beaver B. Knighton, Mark Allen and Billie Johnson.
Early voting for the municipal elections begins March 13 and the election at the polls on March 27.
