DeRidder, La. -

DERIDDER—Wednesday marked the first day for the municipal elections qualifying.

The Town of Merryville and City of DeRidder will hold elections for Mayor and council members in March.

In DeRidder, the current Mayor Ron Roberts filled out a Notice of Candidacy form to run for another term as mayor.

DeRidder has five district seats and two council members at large, which means those candidates are voted on by the entire city.

The two incumbents for council member at large qualified for the election along with an additional candidate Todd Suire.

In the district races those who have qualified are: Robert “Bo” Rice, district 1; Faith Buckley Thomas, district 2; Gordon Jenkins, district 3; Elizabeth Storer Granger, district 4; and Joseph “Joe” Siciliano, district 5.

For the Merryville elections Mayor Charles Hudson has qualified to run for a new term.

Merryville has five alderman seats available and the candidates with the most votes are seated respectively.

Mark Allen, Beaver B. Knighton, “Tami” Longoria and Billie Johnson are the current qualifiers for the Town of Merryville alderman election.

James Longoria has qualified for the Merryville Chief of Police.

Days for qualifying will continue today until 4:30 p.m. and Friday until 5 p.m. in the Clerk of Court Office.

Qualifiers for each day will be posted on the doors of the courthouse or they can be looked up in the office on their computer system.

The Beauregard Daily news will continue to post qualifiers through Friday with the final list published in Sunday’s issue.

Residents can also go to the web and view a list of qualifiers at www.sos.louisiana.gov/tabid/165/Default.aspx . In the center of the page on top select the election date “3/27/2010” and click the “Races in a Parish” tab and select “Beauregard.”
