The Beauregard Parish School Board (BPSB) Personnel Committee on Monday approved a new job description for a position called the Homeless Program Facilitator (HPF).
This one-year position would be evaluated under the Title 1 Director and applicant would have to have a bachelor’s degree to qualify.
The HPF would work in identifying the parish homeless.
There are approximately 80 children in Beauregard Parish considered homeless.
Children living with grandparents or other family members other than their parents fall in the category of homeless, these children are also known as “doubled-up.”
The HPF would also work to sensitize the rest of the school staff to the causes of homelessness and the effects it has on the development of the children.
The Policy Committee also approved a new plan that will govern communication between employees and students.
The policy states that the BPSB requires that any communication between employees and students be appropriate and in accordance with state law.
All electronic communication, electronic mail, computers, social networks or improper or inappropriate communications made between employee and student at any time must be reported by the employee in a manner deemed appropriate by the BPSB.
This means any coach calling a team to cancel a game because of rain must report to the BPSB that they had done so or be in violation resulting in investigation with possible termination.
The new policy will go into effect on November 15, 2009.
In the Personnel Committee the approval to renew the contract of Cord Ensminger, Principal of Beauregard Alternative School, passed. His contract has been extended from April 11, 2010 through April 10, 2012.
