DeRidder, La. -

On Friday, Grace Church along with the City of DeRidder will sponsor the 2nd annual community-wide Fourth of July Celebration.  The event will be held at the Beauregard Parish Fairgrounds and will begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 4th in the open-air pavilion.

The program will include many special guests and remarks by the Reverend George Lee Glass of Grace.  Beauregard’s Courtesy will perform and will feature Erika Anderson and Joe Aymond.

A fireworks display will begin at 9pm and is expected to last for more than twenty minutes.  The DeRidder Fire Department will coordinate the show and will light the fireworks from a secure location near the fairgrounds.

This 2nd annual celebration will occur in conjunction with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall.  The Moving Wall, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall located in Washington, D.C., will be on display at fairgrounds, located at 506 West Drive, 24-hours a day from July 3 through 7. Admission is free of charge and on-site security will be provided around the clock.

The Moving Wall travels throughout the United States each year reaching out to people, of all ages, who might never get a chance to experience the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The Moving Wall, owned and maintained by Vietnam Combat Veterans, Ltd., will make only one stop in Louisiana in 2008. There are 882 Louisiana veterans listed on The Moving Wall. Eight of those veterans are from DeRidder. The wall is being brought to the DeRidder area by the Cole-Miers VFW Post 3619 and Ladies Auxiliary.
