A DeRidder man was killed in a Tuesday evening crash when the bicycle he was a riding was struck by a sports utility vehicle on Highway 171 south of DeRidder. Wade Dyck, 19, was struck as he traveled in the path of a sports utility vehicle on Highway 171 near DeRidder. Dyck was transported to Beauregard Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to investigators from Louisiana State Police Troop D, on Nov. 10, 2009 at around 6:09 p.m., a 2007 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Johnny Bolton, 60, from Leesville was north on U.S. 171 in Beauregard Parish.
While traveling north on U.S. 171, the 2007 Blazer approached the intersection of U.S. 171 and LA 394 near DeRidder. A bicycle, driven by Dyck, was traveling east on LA 394, when the bicycle entered the roadway of U.S. 171 and attempted to make a turn to travel back east on LA 394.
While the bicyclist was attempting to turn around in the intersection of U.S. 171 and LA 394, the 2007 Blazer struck the bicycle. Alcohol is not suspected and the crash remains under investigation.
