Beauregard Parish Clerk of Court Brian Lestage and Sheriff Ricky Moses were sworn in Tuesday during a morning Installation Ceremony at the Beauregard Parish Courthouse before a standing-room-only crowd inside the courtroom.
Opening remarks were presented by Rev. George Lee Glass of Grace Church, following the Pledge of Allegiance led by Sgt. First Class Phillip Mlynarski of the US Army.
Lestage's oath was administered by his father and local attorney, H.O. Lestage, III.
Immediately after being sworn in as Clerk of Court, Lestage then performed his first duty in office – administering the oath to new Sheriff Ricky Moses.
Lestage then performed the swearing in ceremony for the entire Clerk of Court staff, followed by the oath for the Sheriff's Department Staff.
Rev. Roger Gill of Unity Baptist Church concluded the ceremony with the Benediction and a reception followed in the main lobby of the courthouse.
Beauregard Parish residents Lloyd and Jeanienne Wildblood were among the large crowd in attendance – in support of the new Sheriff. The couple said that they have known Moses for a long time and they have high hopes that he will be a great public leader. "He's going to be a fine Sheriff, he's very conscientious and fair to everybody. He will treat everyone the same," said Lloyd Wildblood.
Sen. John Smith also attended the installation ceremony in support of both Lestage and Moses. "They both do a wonderful job and contribute so much to our community. They are both great people and I look forward to a long, successful time in office for both of them," Smith said.
According to Glass' opening remarks, only five others have served as the parish's Clerk of Court before Lestage, and only seven Sheriffs have served the parish prior to Moses.
