DeRidder, La. - American Legion Post #27 invites the community to enjoy Fourth of July festivities at their Sixth Annual Fourth of July Celebration. The non-alcoholic, free, family event will take place starting at 11 a.m. when concessions open, and there will be plenty of food and drinks available for sale. Arts and crafts, a kids' jump room, rock climbing and kids games will be available. Fire trucks and military vehicles will on display. A live band will take the stage at 4 p.m., featuring local talent. About 200 free passes to Jump City will be handed out to kids visiting for the day's festivities. In true Fourth of July fashion, a gigantic fireworks display will begin about a half hour after it gets dark. "We tried to make this as family oriented as possible," said event chairperson Russell Howard, who encourages local families to come out and spend their holiday at the fun-filled celebration. "Everybody come out and yourself." Booths will be set up both indoors and out with a wide range of services provided, including booths from several politicians and dignitaries. Space for booths outside is still available for $20, and those interested in reserving a booth are advised to bring their drop cords. Booths for the inside the American Legion Hall went quickly this year. "We are booked solid on the inside," said Howard, who welcomed those intersted to contact him and reserve a booth if they have something to provide at the event. Howard can be reached at 463-4974 for more information on reserving a booth or for general information about the event. On-site security will be provided at the event. American Legion Post #27 is located at 176 Hwy 112 in DeRidder.
