DERIDDER—The Beauregard Parish School Board (BPSB) Finance Committee met Monday to award the bid recommendation to the BPSB for the construction of the new concession stand at South Beauregard High School.

A fire consumed the concession stand and press box of South Beauregard High School on September 10, 2010.

The Finance committee discussed 11 bids made by local contractors. Two options were given for bids, option ‘A’ priced bids from based structure built from materials of wood and metal or option ‘B’ priced bids from based structure built from cinder blocks according to BPSB Purchasing Agent Tina Simmons.

Due to the wording to the specifications in the contract the committee must choose the lowest bid.

The committee decided to defer any action until Thursday.

In the Policy Committee meeting the committee approved the new policy on electronic communications between employees and students.

This policy requires all BPSB employees report any electronic communication made with any Beauregard Parish student.

Issues with extra- and co-curricular activities will be addressed by issuing a permission slip by a parent or guardian at the beginning of the activity.

Contact on social networks like Facebook and MySpace must be reported, and any existing ‘friendships’ must be terminated according to BPSB Disciplinary Zack Shirley.

 Violations of this policy, however initiated, may result in discipline up to and including termination of employment.
