Local DA Elected As To LDAA Board Of Directors

DeRidder, La. - The Louisiana District Attorneys Association has announced that District Attorney David W. Burton has been elected as a member of the LDAA Board of Directors.
Burton is District Attorney of the Thirty-sixth Judicial District of Louisiana, in Beauregard Parish and is Past President of the Association. He also serves on the Louisiana Juvenile Justice Prevention Delinquency Advisory Board and on the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.
Also elected were: President - Charles A. Riddle III, District Attorney (12th J.D., Marksville); First Vice President - J. Phillip "Phil" Haney, District Attorney (16 J.D., New Iberia); Second Vice President - Barron C. Burmaster, Executive Assistant District Attorney (24th J.D., Gretna); board members, James C. "Jam" Downs, District Attorney (9th J.D. Alexandria); John "Schuyler" Marvin, District Attorney (26th J.D., Benton); Hugo A. Holland, Jr., Assistant District Attorney (1st J.D., Shreveport); R. Christopher Nevils, District Attorney (8th J.D., Winnfield); James P. "Jay" Lemoine, District Attorney (35th J.D., Colfax); J. Reed Walters, District Attorney (28th J. D., Jena); Joseph L. Waitz, Jr., District Attorney (32nd J.D., Houma); Jerry L. Jones, District Attorney (4th J.D., Monroe); Robert W. Levy, District Attorney (3rd J.D., Ruston); S. Andrew "Andy" Shealy, First Assistant District Attorney (3rd J. D., Ruston) Melissa Sonnier, District Attorney Investigator (14th J. D., Lake Chalres); and Harry J. Morel, Jr., District Attorney (29th J.D., Hahnville). The new officers begin their terms August 15, 2008.
The Association is composed of District Attorneys, Assistant District Attorneys, and District Attorney Investigators in the State of Louisiana. It provides training and legal services for prosecutors across the State.
The Association also develops and promotes legislation to strengthen the criminal justice system. Its members are available for testimony before legislative committees.
