LONGVILLE—Free throws were a problem for the South Beauregard Golden Knights (15-9, 5-2 4-2A) when they lost earlier in the season at the home of the Pickering Red Devils (14-13, 4-3 4-2A). The problem appeared to carry over when the Golden Knights missed four free throws to start the fourth quarter Tuesday night when the same two teams faced off at South Beauregard.

However, when the game was on the line Tuesday, Irvin Robinson of the Golden Knights sank two free throws with 11.1-seconds to play to break a tie and give the Golden Knights a 57-55 victory.

The Golden Knights win put them one game ahead of the Red Devils in the District 4-2A standings.

Angel Veintidos made one of two free throws for Pickering with 36.3-seconds to play to tie the game at 55-55.

Andre Belton of Pickering then stole the ball from Robinson to give the Red Devils possession and Veintidos tried to capitalize by going inside for a layup, but Ivan Robinson of South Beauregard was able to save the game with a block that went out of bounds.

Pickering had the ball back, but Jason Boyd missed a 3-pointer for the Red Devils and Jake Chaumont collected the rebound for South Beauregard.

That set up Irvin Robinson who was fouled and made 2-of-2 free throws to give the Golden Knights the 57-55 lead.

Pickering called a timeout and Gett Thomas of the Red Devils attempted to win the game with a 3-pointer, but Irvin Robinson caught the ball to clinch the game for South Beauregard.

The game was close throughout.

It was tied 46-46 going into the fourth quarter and the Golden Knights had a chance to go ahead.

But Chaumont and Irvin Robinson each missed one free throw early in the fourth quarter and Logan Lavolette missed two early free throws in the fourth quarter for South Beauregard.

Kain Hungerford of South Beauregard, who had 13 points in the game with eight of those points in the third quarter, fouled out with 5:46 to play in the game.

Tacourey Washington of Pickering had an offensive rebound and a 2-pointer and Belton had a 2-pointer to give the Red Devils a 50-46 lead.

Despite the early fourth quarter momentum for Pickering, the Golden Knights managed to stay in the game and give themselves a chance to win thanks to the leadership of the senior Robinson brothers.

Irvin Robinson had six fourth quarter points, which included the two game winning free throws and Ivan Robinson had five fourth quarter points, which included three free throws of his own. Ivan Robinson also got the scoring going for South Beauregard with a 2-point field goal with 4:45 to play in the game to cut Pickering's lead to 50-48.

Pickering's biggest run came late in the first half.

Trailing 30-28, Pickering scored the final seven points of the first half to go into the locker room at halftime with a 35-30 lead.

Joey Smith, Thomas and Veintidos each had two of those seven points for Pickering.

To start the third quarter, Hungerford and Ivan Robinson each had a 2-point field goal to cut Pickering's lead to 35-34 and make it a close game as it remained throughout.

WASHINGTON-MARION—Twenty-two turnovers were the difference in the DeRidder Dragons (19-7, 2-1 5-4A) snapping an eight game winning streak Tuesday night as they fell 68-63 at Washington-Marion. It was also the Dragons first District 5-4A loss of the season.

It was close throughout, but Washington-Marion outscored DeRidder 16-12 in the fourth quarter to win.

We just mishandled the ball too many times, gave them too many opportunities,” Dragons head coach Mike Greene said, adding the Dragons did not rebound as well on the defensive glass.

“We gave them too many second shots,” Greene said. “I was extremely proud of their effort.”
Greene said if the Dragons had done things like in previous games, they could have won on Washington-Marion’s court.

“We just didn’t get the job done,” Greene said, noting the Dragons fought hard in adverse conditions.

For the Dragons, JoDarius Jones had 10 points and three steals, Raimon Gates had 10 points and eight rebounds, Rashad Robinson had nine points and three steals, Ryan Greene had eight points and four steals, Kevin Gamble had eight points and six rebounds, LA Sanders had four points, four assists and three steals, Sean Freeman had four points, DeShazor Everett and Dwain Conway each had four points and four rebounds.
