DeRidder, La. -

“Could have went either way in both games.”

DeRidder Dodgers (8-6) head coach Greg Hanchey said those words after his team lost back-to-back games by one run each on the road Monday and Tuesday in summer baseball.

IOWA—In a nine-inning contest at Iowa Tuesday night, Iowa scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the DeRidder Dodgers 10-9.

The two teams were scheduled to play at Iowa earlier in the season, but it rained out. To make up for it, Iowa and DeRidder faced off for nine innings Tuesday.

“In that game we were down 6-1 in the third inning,” Dodgers head coach Greg Hanchey said. “Quinton he was pitching pretty well there. We had a few errors and a few walks.”

Quinton Touchette started the game for the Dodgers, pitched three innings, recorded two strikeouts, and gave up five walks, three hits and six runs.

Anthony Stutes came in and threw the final six innings on the mound, recorded eight strikeouts and gave up three walks, six hits and four runs.

During Stutes’ first five innings on the mound, he only gave up one run.

However, in the bottom of the ninth inning, Iowa scored three runs to win 10-9. Iowa had one hit in the inning, there was an intentional walk to load the bases and DeRidder had three errors.

“We battled. They’re a good team. They’ve only lost one game this summer,” Hanchey said, noting his team had a chance to win, but could not close the deal. “A few errors toward the end let it slip away from us.”

Hanchey said the Dodgers played well and are getting better.

For DeRidder, Collin Hanchey went 2-for-5 with a double, triple and two runs, Jordan Buxton went 2-for-4 with two singles and two runs, Korey Phillips went 2-for4 with a double, a single and a run, Collin Sandell went 1-for-2 with a single and run, Touchette went 1-for-3 with a double and run,

Taylor Broussard went 1-for-4 with a double and RBI, Rashad Robinson went 2-for-5 with a single and triple and Tyler Durham and Stutes each had a walk and run.

SULPHUR—Jordan Buxton’s complete game for the DeRidder Dodgers was not quite enough to win Monday at Sulphur. Sulphur beat DeRidder 7-6.

In the complete game, Buxton recorded two strikeouts, gave up six hits, six walks and seven runs.

“We played hard, battled the whole game and just came up short on that one,” DeRidder head coach Greg Hanchey said. “It was a good defensive effort — hit the ball well. We just couldn’t quite beat them.

“Buxton pitched a good game. He kept us in the game defensively. It was a good game. We played well.”

For DeRidder, Buxton went 2-for-3 with a single, a triple and one run, Collin Hanchey went 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles and one run, Quinton Touchette went 1-for-3 with one single and one run scored, Tyler Durham went 1-for-2 with a single and two runs scored and Collin Sandell went 2-fir-3 with a double and a single.

DeRidder is back in action at 6 p.m. tonight when it hosts East Beau.
