DeRidder, La. -

Rosepine’s lack of timely hitting and trouble finding the strike zone proved costly on the road at Kinder Tuesday in summer baseball. Kinder beat Rosepine 6-2.

Austin Cox pitched the first four innings for Rosepine (4-1 league play). The score was 2-2 when he came out. Justin Simmons pitched the fifth inning and gave up four earned runs. Brandon Russell finished the last two innings on the mound and did not give up any runs.

“It was 2-2 going into the bottom of the sixth and we gave up four runs,” Rosepine head coach Jeff Smith said.

Late in the game, Rosepine surrendered a key walk and hit by a pitch.

“We didn’t pitch very well. We had trouble finding the strike zone. We dodged a couple of situations there where they could have scored on us early, but we kind of held them off,” Smith said.

“We didn’t have any timely hits.”

Seven runners were left in scoring position for Rosepine. A runner was left on second base twice, in one inning runners were left on second and third base and Rosepine left the bases loaded in the second inning.

For Rosepine, John Mark Holiday had an RBI single, Trey Thomas, Holiday and Devin Brown each had one hit and Russell had two hits.

Rosepine is back in action at 6 p.m. tonight at Leesville.

To win against Leesville, Smith said Rosepine has to “just throw strikes and put pressure on the offense and turn around and get some timely hitting.”
